Northern Italy's Veneto Region is dotted with 16th century summer homes once owned by Venetian nobility, many designed by the renowned architect Andrea Palladio. Here are three lesser-known gems in the Venetian countryside that are open to visitors. Undiscovered as they are, you may find yourself with entire rooms or even the whole villa to yourself. It's quite the welcome respite from the bustling calli of Venice!

Villa Selvatico

Perched atop a hill on the road to the Colli Euganei, Villa Selvatico has allured visitors passing by for 6 centuries. The grounds, alone, offer ample reason enough to visit.

Frescos and paintings adorn the most every surface. Don't forget to look up! The ceilings are truly stunning!

Villa Molin

Villa Molin was built so the Venetian owners could oversee their crops during the summer growing season. It's only a 15 minute drive from the center of Padova.
I think I could spend the summer here! Although it wasn't noticeably cooler than Padova on a hot June day!

Villa dei Vescovi

Villa dei Vescovi is located in the quaint hill town of Torreglia and entrance is free to FAI members (a national trust committed to preserving Italy's cultural treasurers).
While not as lavishly decorated as some other villas, this one still features frescos on the walls, and the terrace offered a nice place to soak in the views.

In November Torreglia hosts a wine festival, which these 3 stumbled upon!
Venturing off the beaten path is a rewarding experience! What are some of your favorite hidden gems?
