A Fashionable Outing in Atlanta- Lanvin Exhibit at SCAD FASH

Looking for a fashionable outing in Atlanta? Look no further than SCAD FASH (Savannah College of Art and Design - Fashion Museum). They are currently showcasing the first U.S. exhibition of Jeanne Lanvin's work, featuring over 60 garments, primarily dresses. Lanvin (1867-1946) was the trailblazer in the world of haute couture, an impressive feat considering she was a woman at the turn of the 20th century, an era when women couldn't even open bank accounts!

The 1920's

The 1923 collection featured the classic dropped waist style. It was fun to compare the sketches compaired to the actual dresses.

THERE WERE NUMEROUS SKETCHES ADORNING THE WALLS AND THEY WERE ALSO AVAILABLE USING A CLEVER INTERACTIVE WEB PAGE.

As the oldest of 11 children, young Jeanne went to work for a hat manufacturer to assist with the family's income. It was there that she fell in love with quality fabrics and embellishments. After the birth of her daughter, Lanvin began designing dresses for her, which quickly led to women's fashion and later men's and finally home design.

After her mother's passing, Marie-Blanche assumed control of the company. She clearly inherited her mother's sharp design sense, but regrettably, not her business acumen. Regardless, the brand is still going strong today with Peter Copping as artistic director. His mission is to return to Jeanne's original vision of elegance and beauty.

Which era do you prefer? I believe I have a fondness for the 1930s.

Ciao for now,
