3 Unconventional Travel Tips to Try in 2026

Many travelers still rely on the same old advice, but if you want to make your trips feel more luxurious, it helps to think beyond the usual tips. This post shares three unconventional travel tips that you may not have thought of but can transform your next trip.

#1 Pack your own slippers

Sure most airlines provide slippers for business and first-class travelers these days, but there's a unique luxury about slipping on fresh padded velvet slippers from your recent hotel stay (an upgrade from the in-flight version). Slippers allow you to visit the bathroom without touching the floor and eliminate the need to put on shoes. At the end of the flight, you simply leave the slippers, along with their bathroom residue, behind!
#2 Pack your own silk pillow case

Airlines might tout the designer behind their linens, but would you really buy them for your own bed? Bringing your own silk pillowcase guarantees you wake up from your overnight flight without bed-head and, for side sleepers, without creases on your cheek. Thanks to Jen for the tip!
#3 Do research when booking

This one may seem obvious, but it's time-consuming, so it's easier said than done! My friend, Karen, is great at this one. She always checks AMEX Travel, points options, and books the same flight on partner airlines (i.e., booking Air France on Delta and vice-versa). The Points Guy offers great advice, as well. My advice- when you see a deal, snag it before it's gone!
