Have the sweltering temps of summer got you hot and bothered? Why not take a cool-cation up North? Norwegian Air operates direct flights from several cities including Milan-Malpensa, Rome and Pisa. It's a great escape from the USA too, albeit a tad farther.
Here are some of my favorite sunny day things to do:
TOUR THE OSLO FJORD BY BOAT
Yes, it helps to have friends with a boat but views from the public ferry to the islands offer the same captivating views of harbor, the opera house and the stunning topography.
BUY A SCOOP OF NORWEGIAN RED SHRIMP FROM A FISHERMAN ON THE HARBOR
It doesn't get fresher than this, just caught and boiled right on the boat on the way to back to the harbor. It makes for a well-priced snack by the sea. Yes, that's a credit card machine. Oslo is practically cashless so don't worry about taking out Kroners.
VISIT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM
While museums might not be the first thing on your mind on a sunny day, a visit to the National Museum at the harbor and taking in the breathtaking views from the roof top bar (complete with wine) is not to be missed. They have a well-edited collection of Norwegian artists and collections from the royal family as well as international works of art.
FERRY TRIP TO BYGDØY
This peninsula is home to 4 independent museums that take you back in time to the viking era.
And in the rain...
VISIT THE AMAZING MUNCH MUSEUM
Stunning architecture, stunning artwork by Oslo's hometown favorite artist and stunning views make this a "must-do" on anyone's agenda.
DON'T FORGET TO EAT ALL THE FRESH FISH YOU CAN HOLD DURING YOUR STAY!
