Cittadella, the Medieval Town of Dreams

Think of a medieval town of 20,000 inhabitants, a perfectly preserved city wall complete with moat and very few tourists. Too good to be true? Not in Veneto. It's the beautiful town of Cittadella located just 1 hour northeast of Venice, yet a world away.

Not only is the wall perfectly preserved, but it's also walkable along the top, making a loop of around 1.5 km (a little less than a mile) and offering 360° views

There are four gates from which to enter and exit the town, each named for the direction of the city they point toward (Padova, Treviso, Bassano, and Vicenza).

THE GATES OF TREVISO AND PADOVA

Two restaurants that we have enjoyed on our many visits to Cittadella to go to my sarta (my seamstress... more on that in a future post!) are Taverna degli Artisti and I Bei. I Bei is within the city walls and Taverna degli Artisti is just outside across from the public garden.
We hope you make it on a path less traveled to find these hidden gems!
